PAUL GUIRAGUOSSIAN

Paul Guiragossian was born in Jerusalem in 1926 to Armenian parents who survived the Armenian Genocide. His early life was shaped by exile, separation, and resilience, experiences that later became central to the emotional depth of his work. After moving between Jerusalem, Jaffa, and eventually Lebanon, Guiragossian developed his artistic voice through painting, teaching, and illustration. In 1956, he received a scholarship to study at the Academy of Fine Arts in Florence, followed by another scholarship in 1962 to study and paint in Paris. By the 1960s, Guiragossian had become one of Lebanon’s most celebrated artists, known for his powerful compositions, vivid colors, and deeply human figures. His work often carried themes of family, memory, exile, hope, and belonging. Paul Guiragossian passed away in Beirut in 1993, leaving behind a profound artistic legacy that continues to resonate across Lebanon, the Arab world, and beyond.
